At one point in the 1995 film The American President,* the President (played by Michael Douglas) asks in exasperation, with regards to the NRA, “How powerful could one lobby be?”
This powerful. On Tuesday two incumbent Colorado state senators were defeated in recall elections spearheaded by the NRA.
Says Rick Hasen of Election Law Blog: “The national political implications of these recalls will be huge. Expect Democrats in purple states/districts to RUN away from gun control.”
* The movie was written by Aaron Sorkin and stars Martin Sheen as the White House Chief of Staff. For this and other reasons, this movie functions as a sort of prologue to Sorkin’s series The West Wing.
